The study aimed to investigate the correlational relationship between some Habits of Mind and academic achievement in science among sixth-grade students in Tartous city schools.
The research adopted a descriptive-analytical approach. The study population included all 2,356 sixth-grade students in Tartous city. The research sample was a stratified random sample representing 15% of the original population, totaling 353 students (143 males, 210 females).
The study relied on a Habits of Mind scale in science, prepared by the researcher. The scale included six mental habits: Persisting, Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision, Posing Questions, Thinking Flexibly, Striving for Accuracy, and Listening with Understanding and Empathy. In addition, the study used science achievement scores obtained by the sample group from their first-semester exams for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The results of the study found that the overall level of the studied Habits of Mind among the sample was average. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant and positive correlation between the Habits of Mind and academic achievement in science among sixth-grade students.
