Abstract

The current study aimed to identify indicators items of the (Otis-Lennon) test for general mental ability - elementary level form (j) - by extracting the coefficients of ease and difficulty, the coefficients of discrimination, the coefficients of variation of the items, and the values ​​of the effectiveness of the distractors. The study used the descriptive analytical method because it is the most capable of achieving the objectives of the study and answering the questions that stem from it. The study adopted the Otis-Lennon test for mental ability - elementary level form (j) - prepared by (Otis & Lennon, 1969). The study sample consisted of (500) male and female students in the first cycle of basic education (first four grades), with (125) individuals for each grade, who were chosen randomly. The study reached the following results: The values ​​of the ease coefficients for the test items in relation to the performance of the total sample ranged between (0.20-0.94), and the values ​​of the discrimination coefficients for the test items in relation to the performance of the total sample ranged between (0.17-0.75). Likewise, the values ​​of the coefficients of variation for the test items in relation to the performance of the total sample ranged between (0.07-0.25) Finally, the effectiveness values ​​of the distractors for the test items ranged between (-0.4-0.20).
