Abstract

ABSTRACT□

The research aimed to determine the level of habits of mind in science among sixth grade learners in schools in the city of Tartous, as well as to know the difference in the level of these habits according to the gender variable. The research adopted the descriptive analytical method, and the research community included all sixth-grade learners in the city of Tartous, who numbered (2356) male and female learners. The research sample was a stratified random sample that represented (15%) of the original community, so that it amounted to (353) male and female learners (143 males, 210 females).

The research was based on the Habits of Mind Scale, and the scale included sixteen habits (perseverance, accuracy of speech and expression, controlling recklessness, asking questions, flexibility of thinking, using all senses, verifying accuracy, relying on previous knowledge, listening with understanding and empathy, active listening, thinking Metacognitive, use of humor, creativity, leadership, self, vitality) were formulated by the researcher to suit the science subject.

The research results showed that the level of mental habit in the science subject among the research sample members was generally average, in addition to the absence of a statistically significant difference in the level of mental habit according to the gender variable
