Abstract

Good communication between the nursing staff and patients is essential to achieve successful results of the health care provided to patients, and is a vital element in all areas of activity provided by the nursing staff. The study aimed to assess the communication skills of nursing staff at Latakia University Hospital from the point of view of patients. The study was applied according to the descriptive method to a sample of 100 patients selected by the available sample method in the Departments of internal medicine, surgery and clinics at Latakia University Hospital, in the year 2024. The results of the study included that most of the nursing staff members, 82%, have an average level of communication skills from the point of view of the patients, and 14% of them have a high level of communication skills. The study recommended the need to conduct a training program on communication skills for nursing staff.
