Abstract

ABSTRACT

The research aimed to assess the reality of information technology and its components (hardware and equipment, software, databases, and technical human resources) in the public bank branches in Tartus city.

The research adopted the descriptive approach. The research population included all employees (branch managers, department heads, administrators, technicians) in the public bank branches (Central Bank, Commercial Bank of Syria, Real Estate Bank, Credit Bank, Industrial Bank, Savings Bank, Agricultural Bank) in Tartus city, totaling (178) employees. Due to the small size of the research population and relying on the comprehensive survey method, the research sample included all employees. A questionnaire was used as the research tool, and (161) complete and valid questionnaires were retrieved for statistical analysis, with a response rate of (90.44%).

The overall assessment of the reality of information technology in the public bank branches in Tartus city showed a statistically significant tendency towards a level lower than the neutral accepted standard. The database component was the best due to the strength of data security and backup procedures. In contrast, the technical human resources component was the weakest due to the failure in attracting and developing new competencies, followed by the hardware component, which suffers from technical obsolescence and the absence of replacement and renewal plans. As for the software component, despite the acceptance of basic operating systems, it lacks clear development methodologies and fails to support advanced analytical functions and decision-making.
