Abstract

The research aimed to determine the role of non-governmental organizations in spreading the culture of volunteerism by recruiting, qualifying, motivating, and retaining volunteers, in addition to providing a supportive environment for volunteer work. This was applied to volunteers of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent organization in Tartous Governorate.

The research adopted a descriptive approach. The study population included all 90 volunteers of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in Tartous Governorate. Due to the small size of the study population and the possibility of surveying all its members, the comprehensive enumeration method was used. The questionnaire, which was the research tool, was distributed to all volunteers. A total of 83 complete and valid questionnaires were retrieved for statistical analysis, with a response rate of 92.2%.

The results showed that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent organization plays an effective role in spreading the culture of volunteerism, relying on its positive reputation as the main pillar for attracting volunteers. The organization also succeeded in qualifying volunteers through professional training that focuses on their safety and provides them with practical skills. Furthermore, the organization provided a positive work environment that encourages a sense of belonging and solidarity, and effectively appreciates the efforts of its volunteers.

However, there are still opportunities to develop some aspects, such as updating training methods, activating modern communication channels for recruitment, and enhancing volunteers' participation in decision-making.

The results also confirm that the organization's efforts in all these areas are effective and statistically significant, which highlights the importance of social and humanitarian aspects in the sustainability of volunteer work.
