Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is fundamentally linked to local communities that embrace its values and practice its elements, as it constitutes its memory and cultural identity, in addition to supporting its various economic and tourism activities. This heritage embodies the concept of "cultural diversity" in the country, also its proper use helps in achieving development in its various dimensions, especially the one related to tourism. Although previous researches has studied the elements of (ICH), it has neglected the role of its touristic planning, hence the present research aimed to study this role by clarifying its local and international characteristics firstly, and explaining the mechanisms of such successful use of those characteristics in achieving touristic development secondly. The research follows a dual methodology: descriptive and historical as the historical context of the national and international discourses on heritage was studied. The Ancient city of Aleppo, rich in (ICH) elements, was chosen as a study area. Aleppo is witnessing intensive efforts to rehabilitate its cultural landmarks on one hand, and to protect its (ICH) that's threatened or endangered on the other. Finally, we clarify the difficulties facing the process of touristic use of our (ICH) and the challenges of protecting it and emphasize the necessity of adopting an official and civil stewardship, aiming to reach the optimal benefit from our national (ICH). We concluded with recommendations aiming at protecting the elements of our (ICH), which inevitably will preserve the unique Syrian cultural identity and serves local society greatly.
