Abstract

The Taiwan issue is an issue left behind by the Chinese Civil War between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in 1946, which lasted for three years until 1949. The Chinese Communist Party was able to achieve victory and overthrew the Nationalist government. Chiang Kai-shek fled to Taiwan Province and, with the support of the American government (the American Seventh Fleet), established National China, which is still independent from the Chinese mainland to this day.

This study seeks to clarify the impact of the Sino-Taiwanese conflict on Chinese foreign policy, which was evident in the People's Republic of China adopting various methods in trying to resolve this conflict, as appeared in the statements of Chinese leaders and their interest in the issue of Taiwan's annexation to the Chinese mainland. The study also seeks to analyze and clarify the role of both the United States of America and Japan in the continuation of the conflict and dispute between China and Taiwan,

This study, through the use of the analytical, historical and descriptive approaches has reached several conclusions: Chinese foreign policy, so far, is still following a peaceful approach in its quest to annex Taiwan to the Chinese mainland, and at the same time, the People's Republic of China does not rule out resorting to military force if Taiwan votes to completely separate from the Chinese mainland despite the potential confrontation with the United States and Japan. The People's Republic of China will not allow any country that has official diplomatic relations with China to establish any official relationship with the Taiwan authorities, whatever its form. As a result of the growing military and economic capabilities of the People's Republic of China and its enjoyment of a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, the United States of America and its ally Japan were forced not to venture into the Taiwan Strait.
