Abstract

This research aimed to identify the level of self-efficacy and its relationship with health behavior practices among secondary school students in Tartous city. The research adopted a descriptive methodology. The research population consisted of all secondary school students in Tartous for the 2025-2026 academic year, totaling (5080) students. A representative stratified random sample of (357) students was selected using a statistical sampling formula and distributed proportionally across the three grades (10th, 11th, and 12th). After the field application of the tools, (323) complete and valid scales were retrieved for statistical analysis.

The results showed that the level of self-efficacy among secondary school students in Tartous was moderate, with a mean of (3.39); the "Effort" dimension ranked first at a high level, while "Initiation" and "Perseverance" dimensions were at moderate levels. Similarly, the results revealed that the general level of health behavior practice was also moderate, with a mean of (3.36). The "Prevention and Control" dimension stood out with a high practice level, compared to moderate levels in dietary patterns and physical activity, while sleep hours and the ability to balance study time recorded the lowest ratings. Furthermore, the results demonstrated a strong and statistically significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and health behavior, with a correlation coefficient of (0.784). This confirms that students' beliefs about their personal capabilities are the decisive and explanatory variable for their commitment to real-life health practices.
