Abstract

   Reference is an important element of textual coherence, and it is necessary to be familiar with its concept and types in order to understand the literary text, whatever its genre, correctly. It is the tool through which the recipient knows the direction of the text and its textual and situational dimensions. Hence, it can be said that studying and understanding reference means understanding the linguistic text and its general context.

   The research studies the reference and clarifies its concept and types through the poem of Abu Ishaq Al-Ilbiri, due to its timeless meanings and rich wisdom that are suitable for all times. The research will also include words that contain a reference, whether textual or contextual, clarifying this through a table that organizes the ideas presented and leads to desired results.
