Cultural patterns are among the elements that have been widely discussed in criticism. Critics have begun to focus on the systemic contents of apparent structures and implicit ideologies in their quest to question the text, and to reveal not the secret of its aesthetics, but rather the role of these patterns in shaping the narrative discourse, and to investigate the hidden cultural phenomena that controlled its production and which traditional structuralist readings did not deal with.
The research will attempt to identify the forms of cultural patterns revealed by Arab novel critics, and how these critics were aware of the symbolic structures, and the political, social and intellectual activities that produced the text in their criticism of the Syrian generational novel, in dualities that included the self and the other, man and woman, and the countryside and the city.
