Abstract

The research revolves around the modernity of symbolism and condensation in the poetry of Sayer Ibrahim, and thus addresses three types of symbols: the linguistic symbol, characterized by its condensation and the way it imbues words with meanings they were not capable of bearing, freeing them from the superficial lexical meaning they previously carried; and the traditional symbol, whose use came as an expression of activating the role of classical poetry by building upon it, not abolishing it. Therefore, he used the heritage symbol in its two types: the religious one, through which the story of Joseph the Righteous, peace be upon him, appeared repeatedly, and the historical one, which varied in its symbols used, in addition to the mythological symbol with its imagination and horizons that enrich and enhance the poetic meaning, through the use of various myths such as the myth of Tammuz, Sisyphus, Ishtar, and others, to explain the creativity of modernity in them, after he provides an introduction to the poet. Following the integrated approach in his study, relying on the artistic and historical methods, he moved between the poet’s three groups in studying examples of symbolism and condensation to justify and prove all that came before.
