Abstract

This Study aimsto examine the phenomenon of syntactic deviation in the poetry collection shathaya wa Ramad (Shrapnel and Ashes) by the poet Nazik al-Malaika-It explores this phenomenon through three main axes: Foregrounding and Backgrounding (al-Taqdim wa al-Iltefat). The patterns of syntactic deviation employed by Nazik al-Malaika formed a point of convergence between her work and the recipient (reader/ audience) Foregrounding and Backgrounding deviated from the conventional sentence structure, creating syntactic arran gements that generated diverse meanings and connotations, which are discussed in their relevant contexts. The ELLipsis technique contributed significantly to the production and innovation of meaning. Through this stylistic variable, the poet a achieved her intended goals and meanings, satisfied the requirements of poetic diction, and involved the recipient in the creative process by prompting him to  engage his mind in determining the elided  elements As for Grammatical shift, it sought to uncover the diverse patterns of  relation ships between texts and to stir the recipients emotions. It was primarily employed to convey specific purposes and messages that the poet intended to communicate to the recipient through this technique. The studyadopted a descriptive approach, based on surveying the phenomenon of syntactic deviation in its various forms throughout Nazik al-Malaika poetry.
