Abstract

This research, entitled (Style in Ancient And Modern Arabic Criticism, The circumstances of its emergence and the development of the term), aims to trace the meanings of the word (style) as a term, and its concept among the Arabs through its historical stages, in order to determine its characteristics and advantages. This study was based on all the opinions of critics and rhetoricians from the era of Sibawayh until our era. Concepts about this ancient concept that formed a starting point in modern research, with the aim of comprehensively rooting it beyond its limits, then proceeding to the modern meanings and various definitions included by the modernists who harmonized originality and modernity in their final, final and applied studies. All of this is through following the descriptive approach in refuting the phenomenon studied, this term which came to mean the method of expression or performance of meaning sometimes, and to mean the literary type other times, then it was linked to the term of the system as with Abdul Qaher Al-Jurjani, and to the term of the trend as with Al-Qartajani, while Ibn Khaldun made it the mold or model, and this term continued to develop until our current era, The field of research on it was not closed to our modern critics, who benefited from the discussions of Western stylistic thought in their analyses and contemplations of the term “style”.
