Abstract

The research aimed to identify the obstacles of applying alternative evaluation strategies in the schools of Tartous city from the point of view of the first-cycle teachers of basic education, and studying the differences according to the variable of the number of years of service. The analytical descriptive approach was used, and the obstacles questionnaire prepared by the researcher was applied after verifying its validity and reliability on a sample consisting of (150) teachers. The results showed that the presence of obstacles was high, the obstacles related to the classroom environment and material capabilities came in the first place, followed by obstacles related to school administration and educational supervision, then came the obstacles related to the curces, and in the fourth place came the obstacles related to the teacher, and in the fifth place came the obstacles related to students, the results also showed that there  were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the sample according to the variable of years of service. The researcher presented recommendations, the most important of which were: providing the necessary material capabilities to applying alternative evaluation, and holding training courses on the applying of the alternative evaluation strategies.
