Abstract

This study aims at stylistic analytical reading and following up simile- based deviations in the poetical works of the tramp poet, Taabata sharran, to reveal the most important issues of simile and his role in creating a unique poetical image which astounds the reader, to outline the characteristics of simile and how it expresses the hidden meanings of the poet, to draw a portrait of the tramp's life at that time, and to reveal the places where the poet has deviated from monotony and familiarity to unfamiliarity, thereby simile is an effective element in taking the reader to the atmosphere of the text and to the surroundings and psychology of the poet.

The study has reached a set of meanings represented by simile in the poetry of Taabata sharran, and they were considered within their own text, as it is quite difficult to divide the text and study each image individually, separately from the general atmosphere of the poem. The study showed that the language used by Taabata sharran, in poetry is considered intermediate, since it is neither too ambiguous nor shallow without depth or artistic features. This makes it deceptively easy to look into the hidden meanings of the images.

The study also reflected the value of simile, being deviation from the familiar, utilizing it to serve the text and easily and smoothly deliver the message of the poet.

The study is also an attempt to explain the linguistic and terminological meanings of the simile and its types and effectiveness on literary texts.
