The study of myth guides us to understand the subconscious mental processes that confront human thought. It then directs people at a certain stage in time to extrapolate from the ancient heritage, drawing on it to move forward, after absorbing it, toward the present and the future. Regarding the mythological reference to Abu Tammam's poetry, it reflects a mental and intellectual phase that Arab society was experiencing at that time. It integrates into the cultural structure of society and becomes one of its elements. Then comes the poet’s role in employing it according to a special purpose that is consistent with the poet’s vision of life and existence.
The research studies the rhetoric of mythological intertextuality in Abu Tammam’s work, reading the poetic evidence included in the poem (The Conquest of Amorium). The research includes a definition of the myth in terms of language and terminology, and it does not only engage with the text in the present moment. Rather, it monitors the text that preceded it, that is, the basic channel of Abu Tammam’s culture, its contradictions and mythical intersections. It will shed light on the poem “The Conquest of Amorium” for what it evokes of ancient myths that the poet drew from our Arab heritage and from its rich culture, to employ them in a new text and to revive and renew them.
