Abstract

The Quranic text has given great attention to rhythm and sound as it has to meaning. The Quranic pause is a fundamental component of its rhythmic structure. The pauses in the Holy Quran are not arbitrary; rather, they are connected to the rhythmic and semantic phenomena of Quranic composition. They represent a manifestation of eloquent miraculousness and a secret of wise expression. Therefore, this research aims to highlight the importance of the Quranic pause and its prominent role in distinguishing the Quran’s structure from others, as it affects the content through its meanings and the rhythm through its segments. This facilitates comprehension and brings comfort to the soul. The research begins by referring to the linguistic meaning of the Quranic pause, then discusses its technical meaning, which has attracted the attention of linguists who dedicated sections to it in their books. It then presents a discussion on the types of pauses, followed by a discussion on the relationship between the pause and its counterpart, including examples from verses of the (Amma) section. The research concludes with a summary of the key findings related to the Quranic pause.
