Effective Teaching Strategies

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the extent to which first-cycle basic education teachers in the schools of Tartous City practice effective teaching strategies and to examine the variation in this extent based on the variables of educational qualification and teaching experience. The researcher employed the descriptive methodology, and the research sample consisted of 196 teachers from first-cycle basic education in the schools of Tartous City for the academic year 2024/2025. To achieve the research goal, a questionnaire on effective teaching strategies was developed, consisting of 39 items distributed across three dimensions: incidental strategies, interactive strategies, and exploratory strategies. The results were as follows:

  • The extent to which first-cycle basic education teachers in Tartous City practice effective teaching strategies is moderate overall, with an average score of (3.10). Each dimension also showed moderate scores, with the incidental strategies dimension ranking first with an average score of (3.15), followed by the interactive strategies dimension with an average score of (3.12), while the exploratory strategies dimension ranked last with an average score of (3.04).
  • There are statistically significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) between the mean scores of the research sample on the Effective Teaching Strategies Questionnaire based on the variable of educational qualification, in favor of those with postgraduate degrees.
  • There are statistically significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) between the mean scores of the research sample on the Effective Teaching Strategies Questionnaire based on the variable of teaching experience (less than 10 years, 10 years or more), in favor of the group with 10 years or more of experience.

In light of the results obtained, the current research suggests the necessity of providing regular and specialized training programs for teachers, including the latest effective teaching strategies, with a focus on the practical and applied aspects of these strategies. Additionally, it recommends providing the necessary administrative and material support for teachers, including equipping the learning environment with diverse educational tools and providing the technological resources needed to implement modern teaching strategies. Furthermore, the study calls for a review of the curricula to achieve a balance between theoretical content and practical activities that enhance the use of effective teaching strategies.
