Abstract

The research focuses on the activity of European ambassadors in Istanbul in the 16th and 17th centuries, and it is centered on two parts, the first: They obtained the "privileges" from the Sultans of Al -Othman, which included a set of economic rights for foreigners in the first place, and the "privileges" formed the cornerstone of intensifying the activity of ambassadors in Istanbul, specifically in 1535 when Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent granted the privilege of the King France's first. The research will address the importance of obtaining these "privileges" and how it will represent the legitimate force in which European ambassadors will be counted to confirm their influence and achieve their interests, as it will support their future plans to expand within the lands of the Ottoman Empire.

As for the second part of the research, it focuses on the writings of European ambassadors resulting from the outcome of their observations of the capital, Istanbul, and it was dominated by a descriptive and narrative style, and therefore their work came to fill the lack of their information from the high door and the Ottoman culture at the time, especially in the 16th century AD. And these views were of special importance, as they opened an area for the Ottoman -European communication in the 16th and 17th of centuries.
