Abstract

  The aim of this research was to study the impact of solid waste recycling in Lattakia Governorate, and how to transform it from an environmental burden into an economic resource that contributes to sustainable development from an economic and social perspective. To achieve this goal, the descriptive analytical approach was adopted, as it allows for an analytical study of all aspects of the phenomenon under study. It allows the possibility of an analytical study of the aspects of the phenomenon studied in terms of description, analysis and classification to determine the impact of recycling solid municipal waste on the economic and social development of the population in Lattakia Governorate, where data were collected from their primary and secondary sources and then tabulated in the form of tables for the purpose of analyzing them. The study concluded with a number of findings indicating that adopting circular economic models in solid waste management not only contributes to reducing negative environmental and health impacts, but also creates decent job opportunities, generates valuable economic resources, and contributes to achieving many sustainable development goals, including economic and social development. The study also made several recommendations aimed at activating the recycling of municipal solid waste in Lattakia Governorate at several levels, including policy and legislation, technical and technological, economic and financial, and social and institutional.
