Abstract

    Three samples of Al2O3/CdO combined oxide with one molar ratio of Al2O3/CdO(1:0.25), and the effect of adding the guiding agent Cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) with three molar ratios (0.1,0.25,0.5mol) were studied, by the hydrothermal method at a temperature (100oC) for 7 hours, the symbol was given as HCXAl2O3/CdO(1:0.25)100, where X is the molar ratio of the guiding agent (CTAB). It was observed that the value of the specific surface area SBET increased with increasing the molar ratio of the guiding agent from (0.1mol) to become almost constant after the ratio (0.25mol), where the SBET reached 288 m2/g for the sample HC0.5Al2O3/CdO(1:0.25)100. The changes in the SBET value are consistent with the changes in the micro pore volume Vo, monolayer capacity Vm, average pore volume Vmeso and CBET constant values indicating weak affinity between the adsorbent and the adsorbent while the low adsorption energy Eo values indicate that the adsorption is of the physical type. The sample HC0.5Al2O3/CdO(1:0.25)100 was loaded with sulfate ions in different proportions (4,7,10wt%) by soaking method, the samples were given the symbol HC0.5Al2O3/CdO(1:0.25)100-S(y%), where y is the percentage of sulfate loaded a general decrease in the values of the SBET was observed.
