Abstract

  Evaluating the knowledge of head nurses regarding how to assess nursing staff performance is crucial, as it significantly impacts staff performance. Head nurses serve as role models for their staff due to their daily interaction with them; therefore, they must act as positive examples and demonstrate strength in their roles. This contributes to motivate nursing staff and ultimately improves performance levels. The current study aims to investigate the impact of implementing an information guideline of nursing performance appraisal on the knowledge of nursing head nurses. The sample included 45 head nurses at Latakia University Hospital. The results of the study showed an improvement in the knowledge level of head nurses from a weak to an average level. A key recommendation is to conduct training courses in performance appraisal for head nurses.
