Assessment the educational needs of stroke patients

Stroke is the third leading cause of death and disability worldwide and represents a significant economic burden related to health. The burden of stroke is constantly increasing due to demographic changes and modifiable risk factors. Therefore, the current descriptive study aimed to assess the educational needs of stroke patients. The study was conducted using a convenience sample of 50 stroke patients at Lattakia University Hospital. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The study revealed that 92% of patients had a high level of educational needs related to treatment and disease progression. 88% had a high level of educational needs related to the physical aspect, and 72% had a high level of educational needs related to the dietary aspect. The study recommended the development and design of educational publications and brochures to be incorporated into educational programs aimed at raising awareness and knowledge about stroke, its causes, complications, and treatments. This should be made part of the responsibilities of health educators and nurses.
