Abstract

The technological process of spreading plastic mulch plays an important role in reducing the time and effort required for spreading, covering, and perforating operations, by using more efficient machines instead of traditional manual methods. In this research, modifications were made to a locally made plastic mulch spreading machine to improve its performance. Initially, modifications were made to the work unit complex. These modifications include (replacing the disc mulching weapon with a tipping mulching weapon, designing a new perforation wheel that achieves a distance of (40 cm) between holes). Then, field experiments were carried out in Tartous Governorate, Al-Qadmus area, during the agricultural season (2023-2024). They included a study of the effect of several parameters (working speed and depth of mulching weapons) on the following performance indicators (coverage degree and fuel consumption rate). By comparing the results of field experiments with the results before modifying the machine, the modified machine showed an increase in the coverage degree percentage, as the best coverage regularity rate reached (325.4%), meaning an improvement of (101.2%) compared to the machine before modification, which achieved coverage of (224.2%), when treating the first speed (1.47 km/h), at a depth of (15 cm) for mulching weapons in the soil, and at a height of (35 cm) for pressure wheels. At these calibrations, the results also showed an increase in the fuel consumption rate of (1.3 L/hk), where The fuel consumption rate was (17.6 L/hk), compared to the pre-modification machine's fuel consumption rate of (16.3 L/hk).

Therefore, the modified machine performed better for all studied indicators compared to the results obtained for the pre-modification machine.
