Abstract

The research aimed to study the impact of some demographic, extension, and farm characteristics on modern agricultural methods, where the obstacles that hinder farmers’ adoption of smart agricultural methods were identified. The descriptive analytical approach was used by applying some statistical methods, such as relative frequencies, averages, and multiple regression to measure the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables. The research results indicate that there is a positive and direct correlation between the variables of educational level, experience, monthly income, training courses, farm area, and farmers’ adoption of modern agricultural methods, and a negative and inverse correlation between the variables of age, family size, farm slope, type of holding, and farmers’ adoption of agricultural methods  .The research results showed that the most important obstacles to adopting modern agriculture methods are financial obstacles, at 83.4%, followed by technical obstacles, at 73.2%, followed by demographic obstacles, at 63.0%.  The research also showed that the lack of experienced labor does not constitute an obstacle for farmers in the Baniyas region, in the field of smart agriculture, meaning that there is a workforce capable of learning modern technologies as it has the necessary components available, but there is a decrease in the number of training courses that farmers undergo,  There is a lack of extension support, in addition to a communication gap between farmers.  The research recommended the necessity of working to activate the role of extension units by increasing the number of effective training courses in the field of smart agriculture, and the necessity of establishing centers or associations for farmers to keep them in contact with each other to exchange information and agricultural experiences, and to stay informed of the developments occurring to them, as well as the agricultural problems that they may face.  , and appropriate solutions for them, and work to provide and secure smart agriculture supplies for farmers at reasonable prices if possible.
