This research evaluates the performance of a multilevel cascaded H-bridge inverter compared to a conventional two-level voltage source inverter in three-phase elevator systems powered by photovoltaic (PV) panels. The study focuses on improving the voltage and current quality supplied to the induction motor by reducing the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), thereby minimizing electrical losses, enhancing operational efficiency, and extending motor lifespan. The proposed system is designed such that each H-bridge module is fed by an independent PV string, enabling flexible control and mitigating the adverse effects of partial shading. The system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to compare THD, efficiency, and dynamic response between the two inverter topologies. Results demonstrate that the cascaded H-bridge inverter reduces THD by more than 25% compared to the conventional inverter and significantly improves the power quality delivered to the motor.
